The Costs of AI in Education

Universities are purchasing AI licenses not for access or equity but for the illusion of control, believing large-scale adoption will help them manage student use. However, students already have free or low-cost access to top AI tools, and institutional AI purchases do little to influence how AI is actually used in education.
